Check in for Charity
Red Deer Lodge Hotel & Conference Centre to donate a portion of holiday bookings to charity

Red Deer, Alberta (November 17, 2008) –In the spirit of giving, the Red Deer Lodge will donate a portion of its December 21 – 30 bookings to charity, while offering great rates, giving guests more reason than ever to check in this holiday season.

The donation is part of the Red Deer Lodge’s participation in the Friends In Need program, an annual initiative held at the more than 25 hotels across Canada managed by SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts, including the Red Deer Lodge. Under the program, the hotel offers low holiday rates and donates $10 from each booking during the campaign to a special charity. The Red Deer Lodge has chosen the Canadian Red Cross as its Friends in Need recipient.

“This is the ninth year of Friends in Need and we are thrilled to have partnered with the Canadian Red Cross. It’s such a worthwhile cause and we are looking forward to working with our guests to help them out this holiday season,” says Lisa Francoeur, Director of Sales & Marketing for the Red Deer Lodge.

The Canadian Red Cross is the leading humanitarian organization through which people voluntarily demonstrate their caring for others in need, both here at home and around the world.

The Canadian Red Cross mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world. All CRC programs and activities are guided by the Fundamental Principles which allow the CRC to provide assistance immediately to whoever needs it, wherever they are, whatever their race, political beliefs, religion, social status or culture. Locally, we provide emergency food, clothing and shelter to people left temporarily homeless as a result of disaster, we offer short-term medical equipment loans to people recovering from injury or illness, or in the final stages of life and we provide education on how residents can be prepared in the event of a disaster.

“The Red Deer Lodge’s Friends In Need program provides a financial boost to our organization and the people we serve here in Red Deer,” says Rhonda Schwab, Community Development Coordinator for the Red Cross in Red Deer. “We are pleased to be a recipient of this great program and applaud the Red Deer Lodge, SilverBirch Hotels and Resorts, and all the guests who check in, for their support.”

Started in 2000, the Friends In Need program has distributed over $730,000 to charities across Canada. This year, the program has been expanded with a goal to raise more funds than ever. The target for this year’s program is $150,000.
